Artificial Companions and Chatbots Luxembourg Lab is a community of researchers, students and professionals working in the fields of Conversational Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Dialogue Systems, Conversation Analysis, Social Sciences, Psychology, Language Technology, Design, Social Media and Education. We focus on technology-mediated and human-machine interaction, deception in socio-technical settings and human-machine collaboration.

Examples of our past and current topics:

  • Conversational interfaces for interaction with complex systems and explainability,
  • Conversational AI for cybersecurity applications,
  • Dialogue-based computer-assisted language learning,
  • Conversational interfaces for computer-based assessment,
  • Large language models and non-referential functions of language,
  • Role-play with humans and artificial intelligence.

Everything is a conversation

We believe that conversational interfaces help us to solve our daily tasks more efficiently. Artificial companions will assist different user groups in tasks that require an intensive, long-term human-machine interaction such as:

  • practicing conversation in a foreign language,
  • providing support for users with special demands,
  • facilitating our jobs by taking over daily odd duties in order to make more time for really interesting and creative work,
  • offering easy interaction with complex technical systems.

We combine qualitative approaches to dialogue research such as Conversation Analysis with recent Machine Learning techniques such as Deep Neural Networks in order to create conversational interfaces and chatbots of the next generation.
